Working Flow and Operating Principle of industrial slag blocking

High-Quality slag products, commonly known as a slag hammer, slag blocking, or slag cone, is a product used during steel tapping in the converter steelmaking process.

The industrial slag blocking consists of a gyroscope-shaped refractory hammer head and a long refractory guide rod.
The surface of the slag-blocking plug’s gyroscopic hammer head features three angular steel-tapping grooves. It is designed to withstand high temperatures and resist erosion by molten steel. The density of the slag-blocking plug falls between that of molten steel and slag, allowing it to float on the surface of the molten steel. Its surface structure breaks up vortices in the molten steel, preventing slag from being entrained in the vortices.

The long refractory guide rod is designed to provide guidance and positioning, as well as center-of-gravity balance. Guidance and positioning: After being dropped into the molten steel, the long rod first extends into the tapping hole, guiding the hammer head to align with the tapping hole, thereby preventing drifting or tipping; Center-of-gravity balance: The assembly is heavier at the bottom and lighter at the top, ensuring that the hammer head always remains upright at the steel-slag interface and does not invert and fail.
