Introduction to black silicon carbide

Metallurgical silicon carbide, commonly known as diamond sand, is synthesized artificially in industry. The naturally occurring silicon carbide, commonly known as moissanite, is rare in nature and difficult to develop. Artificially synthesized silicon carbide is produced by reacting quartz sand and carbon source at high temperatures above 2000 degrees Celsius. From the perspective of appearance and purity, it can be divided into two categories: black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide.

 

The morphology of abrasive grade silicon carbide

Silicon carbide appears to be a solid crystal from the outside. Black silicon carbide is black/blue black in color and has a metallic luster. Green silicon carbide has a yellow green/emerald green color and a glassy luster. Stable structure, not easily deformed or broken. Not absorbent and odorless.

 

Properties of Silicon Carbide

At room temperature: Silicon carbide has extremely strong chemical inertness, and is resistant to acid, alkali, and salt corrosion. It does not react with common acids and bases such as dilute sulfuric acid, dilute hydrochloric acid, and acetic acid. Long term storage in a dry environment without spoilage. Under high temperature conditions: it decomposes with molten steel, playing a role in deoxidation, carbonization, and silicon addition.
